Bijan Omrani

The Ancient World and What Christianity Gave England

Bijan Omrani is a Classicist and writer with a special interest in the history of travel. His previous books include works on Afghanistan, the history of the Silk Road and most recently Caesar’s Footprints: Journeys to Roman Gaul. He previously taught at Eton College and Westminster School and for several years edited the Asian Affairs Journal. Now a research fellow at the University of Exeter, his new book Debt to a Dying God: What Christianity Gave England will be published later this year. Based on his knowledge both of Eastern and Classical traditions, as well as research on Christianity, he will speak about the role that travel has played – and can still play in today’s deracinated world – in the search for identity, belonging and spiritual fulfilment.
